Counseling Services
Families
Sometimes, events (like death, divorce, new jobs, or new family members) can disrupt a family’s homeostasis or “normal”. When disruption occurs conflicts often arise and “getting along” can seem impossible. Family counseling can be helpful in learning how to adjust to the new “normal” and help each family member regain some a sense of their role. Our family counseling will be informed by Bowen’s Family System Theory and grounded in the humanistic perspective.
Couples
Every couple’s relationship is unique. Our work will be a focused exploration of your relationship as the “client”. This relationship-centered approach will allow us to remain grounded in humanistic theory as we use the Gottman Method to help you gain insight about your individual experiences and manage differences. We will work together to help you recognize your relationship’s strengths and to gently navigate through its vulnerabilities. You will also learn new ways to manage resolvable problems and learn how to talk about perpetual issues.
Individual
How you respond to traumatic or difficult events is your “normal” and that’s OK. Reaching out for support is a sign of your inner strength and wisdom. Our work will be framed from humanistic and existential perspectives. Meaning, I believe all people have the potential to heal, grow, and thrive. You can get relief from the hurt and sadness of trauma and adversity. Counseling builds on strengths you already have as we foster your ability to identify what is getting in the way, gain new insight, cope, and make changes.
